Phong Prayer Candle
Phong went far too long without a starring role in a craft project. Now I'm making up for lost time with a project just easy, thrifty, and worshipful enough to become an instant classic.
Phong Phorever!

YOU'LL NEED:

  • a candle in a tall glass container (see "tips" at end of project for more info)
  • decoupage medium (like Mod Podge)
  • paintbrush
  • scissors
  • hole punches
  • gold paper
  • a picture of Phong
  • little Yin-Yang symbols

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Print and cut out a picture of Phong.

2. Use decoupage medium to glue the picture of Phong to the shiny side of the gold paper. Cut Phong out again, this time leaving a border of gold all around him.

3. Decoupage the gold-bordered Phong to the front of your candle.

4. Use standard and/or decorative hole punches to punch shapes out of the gold paper.

5. Decoupage the gold shapes onto your candle.

6. Decoupage little Yin-Yang symbols onto some of the gold shapes. (You can use Yin-Yang stickers, or print out Yin-Yangs from a font such as Wingdings.)

7. Light the candle. You can pray for Phong's safety in Season V, meditate on portraying him correctly in fanfiction, or focus positive energy on the very distant possibility that Irwin will make a decent Phong action figure someday.

Worship me, my child.

TIPS:

  • This type of candle is readily available in the ethnic foods sections of grocery stores where I live. If you can't find one, you can always pour your own or use some other type of pre-poured candle in a glass container.
  • You don't need much gold paper for this project. You can save a trip to the craft store by using the gold paper from a candy bar wrapper. (I did!)
  • No decoupage medium around? Mix together equal parts of non-yellowing white glue and water. That tends to work nearly as well.
