Okay, so you're not the Michelangelo of fan art. But can you measure paint and color in the lines? If so, you can create art with Dot by Numbers
YOU'LL NEED:
- bristol board or thick paper
- the Dot by Numbers pattern
- white, black, red, purple, and green acrylic paints
- paintbrush and basic painting supplies
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Print the Dot by Numbers pattern onto a sheet of bristol board or thick paper.
2. Mix your paints to match this number key: |
|
1 = white 2 = black 3 = red 4 = purple 5 = green 6 = two parts red to one part white |
7 = two parts red to one part black 8 = equal parts green and black 9 = two parts green to one part black 10 = two parts green to one part white 11 = equal parts green and white 12 = two parts white to one part green |
|
3. Use each paint color you've mixed to fill in the sections of the pattern marked with the corresponding number. Some of the numbers have straight lines leading from them-- those numbers are for the section the line is pointing to (not the sections they're actually in).
4. Sign it, frame it, hang it on the wall. Stand back and do that "paint-by-numbers squint." It's art! Well... in a ReBoot-kitsch kind of way.
TIPS:
- Use your paint to overlap the lines of the pattern-- you don't want them to show up in your finished painting.
- If you have trouble covering the numbers and lines, you can either use a photocopier to lighten the pattern or goop on your paint in thicker layers.
- I like using metallic purple paint for this project-- it makes the eyes and the background pop.
- If you're feeling creative, try making up your own color key. Dot can be orange, blue, or anything else you want!
