Polka Dot Paper Lantern
Not to be confused with the Dot-o'-Lantern, this project was designed with my slightly wiggy idea of a ReBoot-themed garden party in mind.

YOU'LL NEED:

  • a plain paper lantern
  • several shades of green tissue paper (preferably the non-bleed type)
  • decoupage medium (such as Mod Podge; preferably matte)
  • spongebrush or soft paintbrush
  • scissors
  • a printed copy of this pattern

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut circles out of the tissue paper. Vary the sizes and shades of green. If you have a hard time freehanding nice-looking circles, trace around cups or other round objects to make patterns. Cut through several layers of tissue at once to save time.

2. Use a brush and decoupage medium to carefully glue the circles all over the paper lantern.

3. Print out a copy of the silhouette pattern. Use the pattern to cut a copy of Dot's silhouette out of tissue paper. If you have a hard time with this step, it may help to tape the outside of the pattern down to the tissue paper before cutting.

4. Use a brush and decoupage medium to carefully glue the tissue paper silhouette onto the paper lantern. You may want to glue Dot on top of a contrasting tissue paper circle.

5. Let the whole thing dry. If you want it to be illuminated, you can hang the lantern from a matching paper lantern light cord. You could also make more lanterns featuring other characters and string them all together.

...and Dotted.
